Pittsburg had the opportunity to enjoy a wonderful musical journey back to the 60’s with the Barron Edwards’ Motown 60’s Music Revue Saturday. Taking place at Pittsburg’s “hidden jewel,” the historic Creative Arts Building, the show featured music that was the soul and sound of American, bridging gaps between generational, ethnic and cultural lines that have been part of American life for five decades!
These Motown acts were polished and entertaining as they presented a high-energy show for the audience as the early Motown tours did. The line-up was amazing with every song that brought the audience together in encore. The Funk Brothers II provided the backbeat that tuned every song that was performed just right. These mesmerizing acts included Martha Reeves, The Miracles, Aretha Franklin, Ike and Tina, the Jackson 5, The Supremes, and closing with a grand finale by The Temptations Tribute Band!
They may be featured in one segment and backups in the next, just as many of the Motown artists, who would back other Motown groups. These talented performers are Collette Taylor, Ronya Hull, Jayne Blackwell, Crystal Bouie, Nicole Pearson, Shalaunda Lemons, Sharese Robinson, Don Seastrunk, Orlando Seastrunk, Kearney Seastrunk, and Brian Flax.
These amazing performers brought the audience to their feet from beginning to end. According to Barron Edwards, “A number of our musicians are from Pittsburg, and they really look forward to performing at home.” It’s no wonder the energy level they had!
All proceeds from Saturday night and raffle will go to the “Adopt-A-Seat” program to restore all 2,242 seats in the Creative Arts Building and to the Eddie Hart All-In-One Foundation.
It was clear that the audience enjoyed the show as they exited with laughs and melody.
“It was GREAT! I had the best time of my life in there!” said Cynthia Brown, a Pittsburg resident.
