Pittsburg – rich in diversity and culture!
Plenty of meeting and greeting was the order of the night for the City of Pittsburg - as city officials welcomed our newest Sister City; Yahualica, Mexico!
Yahualica is a small town – with a population of about 40,000; with ties to several community members. Back in the 1960’s, the Los Gallos soccer team was established by Yahualican and Italian immigrants.
The City of Pittsburg graciously welcomed Mayor Elias Iniguez Majia and his delegation from Yahualica, Mexico
Pittsburg Economic Development Director, Brad Nail, welcomed everyone to the gala affair.
Mayor Nancy Parent signed the sister city agreement with Mayor Elias during the ceremony – making it official!
The dinner was a kick-off for the Mexican-style carnival on Sunday – which Club Yahualica plans to become an annual event!
A momentous occasion, as Club Yahualica has been pushing for this moment for quite some time now!
Gifts were exchanged between the two cities! Mayor Elias gave Pittsburg an encased gold key and Mayor Nancy Parent gave them a Zinfandel wine basket, along with a framed seafood festival poster.
Everyone enjoyed the entertaining Mariachi Band!
A sister-city trip is planned to Yahualica, Mexico this year – from September 26-30.
Each city exchanged their flags at the conclusion of the dinner.
A touching reminder of our city’s sense of community, on both a local and global scale.
