Sustainable Practices in Food Gardening: Lecture and Book Signing with Pam Peirce on Saturday, February 13 from 2-4 pm

Walnut Creek, CA(February 2, 2010)-– Join Pam Peirce and The Ruth Bancroft Garden for this lecture and book signing. This exciting event will focus on water conservation and other sustainable practices in bay area food gardens.
About the book:Golden Gate Gardeningis the definitive primer on vegetable gardening in Northern California. Full of information and camaraderie, this book explains how to grow common vegetables and herbs and add unusual ones that bring variety to the garden. There are sections on edible flowers, cutting flowers, fruits, and managing local pests and weeds.
About the author: Ms. Peirce is the author of Golden Gate Gardening as well as Wildly Successful Plants: Northern California. She has written or co-authored a number of other books, including several on biofriendly pest management, and her photos appear in many books and magazines. She speaks regularly at Master Gardener classes and presents gardening workshops in many other local venues. She writes a column, Golden Gate Gardener, for the San Francisco Chronicle. She is a co-founder of the San Francisco League of Urban Gardeners, member of the Garden Writers Association and of the California Native Plant Society, and a professor of Horticulture at the City College of San Francisco.
